For BESS Developers & EPC Companies

A Local Engineering Partner for Grid-Scale Battery Projects in Tamil Nadu

Structures made in Coimbatore Site works & approvals Solar + storage layouts

Tamil Nadu is building grid batteries at TANTRANSCO substations, several of them within driving distance of Coimbatore. If you won one of these projects, or are building one as EPC, Aran can be your local engineering partner. We tell you at the start which parts we deliver ourselves and which through partners.

To be clear: Aran does not make batteries and does not bid as a battery developer. We work under developers and EPC companies, on the parts of a project a local engineering firm does best.

In short

  • Tamil Nadu's grid batteries: TNGECL (Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation) awarded 500 MW / 1,000 MWh of 2-hour batteries in 2025, and TNERC approved a further 375 MW / 1,500 MWh of 4-hour batteries in February 2026 (M.P. No. 7 of 2026), at 11 TANTRANSCO substations.
  • Near Coimbatore: four of the 2026 sites are in TANTRANSCO's Coimbatore circle: Karamadai, Anaikadavu, Othakalmandapam and Palladam, 125 MW / 500 MWh together. The national grant scheme asks for commissioning within 18 months of signing the battery storage power agreement.
  • Local content: grant-backed battery projects must have at least 20% Indian content by project cost; the developer gives an undertaking before the contract is awarded. Whether fabricated steel counts depends on how the developer measures it.
  • Safety rules: from 1 April 2027, as reported, CEA rules for battery systems above 650 V require a two-fault-safe design, fire suppression and an independent fire safety audit.
  • Storage with new solar: a 2025 government advisory asks for 2-hour storage equal to 10% of capacity in future solar tenders, and a September 2026 CEA draft would make storage (10% of capacity for 2 hours) compulsory for new ground-mounted solar and wind plants from July 2027. It does not cover rooftop. It is still a draft.

Checked 2 October 2026.

What we can take on

Fabricated steel

Steel structures made in Coimbatore, such as platforms and walkways, to your drawings.

Site works coordination

Foundations, cable trenches, drainage, roads and fencing, with local civil partners.

Local approvals

Local liaison for the approvals your project needs, including the independent fire safety audit the 2027 CEA rules ask for.

Solar + storage layouts

Battery blocks planned into the layout of solar plants built on our trackers and structures.

HT electrical work is done by licensed partners. We tell you at the start which parts we deliver ourselves and which through partners.

Why a local partner helps

Honest about where we are

This is a new line for us. We build solar structures and trackers today; grid batteries are where we are starting. We won't claim battery projects we haven't done. We will quote only for the work we can show we can deliver, and we're glad to start with one well-defined package.

Common questions

Does Aran supply batteries for grid projects?

No. Aran does not make batteries and does not bid as a battery developer. We work under developers and EPC companies on steel structures, site works with local partners, approvals liaison and solar-plus-storage layouts, and we say at the start which parts we deliver ourselves.

Which Tamil Nadu battery projects are near Coimbatore?

TNERC's February 2026 order (M.P. No. 7 of 2026) approved 4-hour batteries at Karamadai, Anaikadavu, Othakalmandapam and Palladam, among 11 TANTRANSCO substations. Together these four are 125 MW / 500 MWh.

Do your structures count towards the 20% Indian content rule?

Our steel structures are made in India. Whether and how much they count depends on how your contract measures Indian content, which is on total project cost, so we check that with you first.

What safety rules apply to grid batteries from 2027?

As reported, Chapter XA of the CEA Safety Regulations applies to battery systems above 650 V from 1 April 2027. It requires a design that stays safe through two faults, gas and smoke detection, automatic fire suppression, forced ventilation and an independent fire safety audit.
